Note that the gimp printer drivers are a separate distribution (see 
gimp-print.sf.net) from the gimp image-editing application. It may well 
have portability problems, but I expect they're much less serious than 
for a gtk application.

There is also an 'stp' driver that calls the gimp-print library directly 
in GNU Ghostscript 6.53. This will probably go away in favor of the ijs 
interface once that's officially released.

Note also that HP and Epson have both released vendor driver suites that 
support the ijs interface (binary-only in epson's case, unfortunately) 
We don't actually maintain many of these drivers, and part of the idea 
with ijs is place responsibility for them more clearly in the hands of 
their respective developers. To encourage conversion, we'll probably 
begin to slowly remove those drivers with an ijs alternative from the 
default build, and eventually from the source tree altogether.
