Greg Roelofs <newt at pobox.com>, the lead libpng developer, just alerted
me that libpng-1.2.2 was released yesterday (15-Apr-2002). It is
available from at least these sources:

	http://download.sourceforge.net/libpng/libpng-1.2.2.tar.gz
	ftp://swrinde.nde.swri.edu/pub/png/src/libpng-1.2.2.tar.gz

It should be available at

	http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/src/libpng-1.2.2.tar.gz

as well, but as I write this, is not yet there.

The CHANGES file has 54 lines of entries added since the 1.2.1 release
of 12-Dec-2001 that I used for the last ghostscript-7.20 builds here,
noting a fair number of bug fixes, and portability improvements.

I now have builds and installations of the new libpng release
completed on a dozen or more platforms.

Since libpng is not yet GNU autoconfigurized, there are separate
Makefiles and compilation options for each platform. Because this is
a nuisance to deal with on the number of platforms that I support, I
wrote a script to automate the process; you're welcome to snarf it
from

	http://www.math.utah.edu/~beebe/scripts/UTAH-BUILD-LIBPNG.sh

After unbundling the libpng-1.2.2 distribution, cd to its directory,
and then execute the above script. It will give instructions on
completion about how to complete the installation.
