[gs-devel] Font management for library

I'm evaluating GS (graphics library only - no interpreter) for a project and am finding that it does everything I need except font handling.  Has anyone implemented something like:
 
    gs_font *gs_findfont(char *fontname);
 
Sorry if this seems like an overly simplistic request, but I'd like to be a user of the library, not a developer.
