James,
Up to gs8.10 the resource directory is an absolute path,
Starting from the root directory :
/Resource/CMap/Identity-H
The current CVS revision and later seek from the Ghostscript
home directory. Default value is /gs/Resource/CMap/Identity-H .
Hope this helps.
Igor.

That pointer helps. I've strace(1)ed the run, and gs8 is indeed
looking for several files under /Resource, rather than under
$PREFIX/share/ghostscript/Resource as gs7 does.
I used: ./configure --prefix=/opt/gs8 --with-x --with-ijs
But 'ln -s usr/share/ghostscript/Resource /Resource' does not help.
It doesn't try to open anything in /Resource/CMap.
Per the other reply, Both the pdf and the ps that acroread-5.0.5
generates are on their way to the bugs list.
And I'm about to try the latest cvs.
